User Permissions

User Levels and Permissions

There are three types of Users and four user levels in Test Generator. The three user types include Administrators, Instructors, and Test Takers. The four user levels include:

All of these Users access the same database, but the parts of that database that they can see, and the TG functions they can perform, are limited by their permissions. How and when you create Users and set their permissions is its own management/policy question.

Best Practice

Implementing a TG use policy is especially important for large organizations with "layers" of users. If this describes your organization, we strongly recommend instituting a use policy before you begin. While we don't have all the answers however, we can help sort out some of the issues. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Admin Administrator

At the top, the tier1 Admin Administrator can see all program features and user information. The Admin Administrator is the only user who can create and edit administrative users.

Administrators

Just below the tier1 Administrator are all of the other tier2 Administrators. These users have the same access to TG as the tier1 Administrator with one exception: they cannot see or modify the user information of other Administrators. Typically, TG Administrators control the ’r;top-level’ functions and monitor the TG environment.

Note: it is not compulsory you create tier2 Administrators however, if your test administration and use-policy require this level of control, it is available.

Instructors

Instructors are below Administrators in the permission pyramid. Instructors function between Administrators and Test Takers. Typically, they take care of most day-to-day TG activity: creating and administering tests, viewing reports, and returning results to Test Takers.

Test Takers

Test Takers can only log in to Tester; they do not have access to Test Generator. TG Administrators or Instructors control Test taker access to tests through class or test enrollment.
