The steps outlined below will vary based on your use policy.

  1. Select File > New > User or the New User icon (new_user_icon.gif) on the toolbar to access the New User dialog.

  2. Enter your last name and click OK.

  3. Enter your first name and middle initial in the spaces provided.

  4. The default User Type for a new user is Test Taker. Because you intend to create and administer tests, make sure you select Administrator as the User Type in the box to the right of your name.

    Below your name are five tabs corresponding to five folders. You only need to complete the information in two of these folders to get started. The Login folder should already be open.

  5. You must assign yourself an alphanumeric User ID and Password in the spaces provided. You can only use letters and numbers with no spaces. Choose a User ID and Password you can remember as you need this information to log in to Test Generator.

  6. Next, click the Permissions tab to open the Permissions folder. Select Can create new Classes by clicking the small box to the left of the text. A check mark should appear.

  7. You have now created yourself as an administrator, but you are still logged in to Test Generator as the Admin administrator. (The name under which you are logged in always appears at the top of the Tree Directory on the left side of the window.). Before you start creating classes and tests you should log off Test Generator and log back in with your own User ID and Password. Select File > Log Off. When the Log In window reappears after a few seconds, repeat the Log In procedure with your new User ID and Password.
