Test Generator Question Bank

Working with subjects

Before reviewing this topic and using this feature:

Concept

The Question Randomization Engine is TG’s test randomization utility. It enables the author to apply a range of randomization options to a test. These settings can define the number, order and grouping of questions presented to the test taker. The TQB refers only to the set of "x" questions making up a specific test. This set of questions may have been created manually, cut-and-pasted from a text editor, imported from one or more question banks or by using TG’s Test Wizard.

Uses

Best Practices

We recommend experimenting with these options. Create one or more sample tests and try out the various randomization settings before applying them to your final test. This includes opening and examining the CPR test’s TQB settings (see below). Once you decide on a TQB setting and publish your test. Do not modify these settings once you publish your test and have real test data. Doing so corrupts your test results.

Some TQB settings should not be used if, for example, you need to use some of the Analysis Reports. This is because all of your test takers may not get all of the same questions or subjects. Exceptions include TG Web users. These users have access to the database and can generate Sql queries and/or generate custom reports. Please contact us for more details.

CPR Test – a randomization example

Your installation of Test Generator includes a Sample Class and two tests. The CPR test uses the randomization utility. Its 50 questions make up the CPR test’s question bank.

If you open the CPR test and select Test Settings > Section Properties > Randomization, notice the test author selected the Bank Type, Random Questions and type in 20 in the field below the instruction, "Questions: Select X questions from the set of questions."

These settings mean:

TQB Options

None
Random Questions
Random Subjects
Question-Subject 1
Question-Subject 2
Question-Subject 3

More information about Test Scoring

Note: The Random Subjects, Question-Subject 1, and Question-Subject 2 Bank Types have an Include questions with no subject in the random selection check box. If this box is checked, questions without a subject are treated as belonging to their own, separate subject. If this box is not checked, these questions are ignored.

Note: At the bottom of the Question Bank window, there is an Ask questions randomly check box. If this box is checked, randomly selected questions are asked in random order. If it is not checked, the randomized questions are presented in ascending order. (For example, if questions 3, 5, and 8 are selected randomly, question 3 is asked first, then 5, and then 8.)
