Short Answer questions require the test taker to type in an answer to the question. Since you, as the Test Creator, can designate multiple answers (up to ten) as being correct, the test taker can receive credit for entering one of multiple variations/spellings/etc. of the answer.
Click the blue +Q, Question button, or select Test Settings > New Question. A list of the 11 question types appears.
Select Short Answer. The Short Answer question-type appears in the yellow box at the top of the window.
Enter your question text in the yellow box at the top of the window. Delete, or type over, the introductory text. Type your question as you want it to appear on the test.
Click the +A (Answer) icon at the top of the window. An answer box appears below the yellow question box.
Click the mouse in the answer box and enter the answer text.
Note: Keep in mind Test Generator only scores a test taker's question as correct if the word is spelled exactly as you have typed it. Short Answer questions are case sensitive. However, up to ten answers may be created for a Short Answer question so multiple spellings may be entered as correct answers. For example: answer 1: Georgia, answer 2: georgia, answer 3: GA.
Uses: grammar-related questions (e.g., complete the sentence) ESL exams, supply the missing line, short descriptive or qualitative answers.
If there is a high likelihood the test taker may misspell an answer, the test author may wish to consider using another question type (multiple choice, T/F, Essay). As another option, provide explicit instructions regarding the form of the answer – e.g., ’r;two words, the first letter of each word is capitalized’ or ’r;acronym, all caps’.
