Numeric question types are similar to Short Answer questions but require numeric instead of text answers. You can include up to 10 answer choices.
Click the blue +Q, Question button, or select Test Settings > New Question. A list of the 11 question types appears.
Select Numeric. The Numeric question-type appears in the yellow box at the top of the window.
Enter your question text in the yellow box at the top of the window. Delete, or type over, the introductory text. Type your question as you want it to appear on the test.
click the red +A , Answer icon or select Question Settings > Add Answer to create an answer box below the yellow question box. Click the mouse in the answer box and enter your numeric answer. This is the answer you will accept as correct.
Uses: Where a precise number (integer), or inclusive / exclusive range is acceptable:
Create questions requiring a specific number answer
form:
n, or n/n,
or .n, or n.n
examples: 0 or 0.1 or 1/9 or 1.1 or 111,111,111
Whose answer(s) can fall within a inclusive numerical range
form:
n:n or n.n:n.n or n/n:n/n
examples: 1:2 or 1.0:1.9 or 1/2:2/3
Whose answer(s) can fall within an exclusive numerical range
form:
(n:n) or (n.n:n.n)
or (n/n:n/n)
example: (1.0:9.9) where any answer > 1.0 and < 9.9 is correct
That have more than one correct numerical answer
form: any of the above
Note: Your answer/answers should be in the form described above. For example, if your answer is a single digit (e.g., 9), you might also accept 9.0 as the correct answer. If this is the case, create two answer choices. The test taker only sees one answer box but answering either 9 or 9.0, is scored as correct.
You can add or remove answer fields by right-clicking the mouse in the answer fields or by selecting the quick-key options to add an answer (Ctrl + D) or remove an answer (Ctrl + R). We recommend trying out the various question types before you begin any serious test creation.
We recommend creating a 1-question sample test and trying out the various form options described above. If you have questions, please contact us.
